A strangely familiar narrative

…to me, who tried to provide reliable strictly science-based data about Rocky Flats to local governments on the Jefferson Parkway and then the Rocky Mountain Greenway. Happy Halloween!

Beth Mole’s [a Ph.D writer for arstechnica] article Idaho health district abandons COVID shots amid flood of anti-vaccine nonsense is a warning about what can happen “during a hearing swamped by misinformation and conspiracy theories”. With the substitution “anti-nuclear” and “anti-Refuge” for “anti-vaccine”, the stories are similar: physicians gone astray, fake “experts”, and a misled public:

“In addition to the anti-vaccine presenters and contributors, there were nearly 300 public comments blasting COVID-19 vaccines. Many people parroted the false information and conspiracies spread by the presenters, saying: “It is common knowledge the COVID-19 shots are poison”.

“Some commenters seemed to take aim not just at COVID-19 vaccines but all vaccines, writing in to say, “No more promoting ANY ‘vaccinations'” and “Stop the shots, stop killing our children!””

As a commenter noted, “The irony is that this is the opposite of being “pro choice.” It’s literally restricting the choice of others to receive the vaccine.” Sounds like placing the Refuge off limits to everyone despite zero evidence of any danger to anyone. (Pace Downwinders)
