Westminster city council paints itself into an embarrassing corner
In September 2024 the city council capitulated to anti-nuclear pressure by withdrawing financial support for the Rocky Mountain Greenway and the bridge across Indiana Street joining Westminster open space with the Rocky Flats National Wildlife Refuge.
Council members opposing the Greenway were left having “come too late to the party” and the bridge has been installed.
The council’s information packet for June 23rd states that “On April 21, 2025, City Council provided direction to Staff to not pursue improvements to the existing social trail on the Woman Creek parcel, and provided direction to establish signage near the adjacent Indiana Street bridge…” On June 23rd in an attempt to placate vocal anti-nucs a number of candidates for “warning signs” for those entering the Refuge were considered.
I forwarded my remarks on the proposed signage to the Council. I proposed corrections that would make signage at least not wrong.
It will be interesting whether the Council adopts signage that publicly displays its ignorance of the the science and data and reveals its reliance on misinformation from outside interests with an anti-nuclear agenda.
